Am I a bad person for wanting a Mustang II with a modern Cosworth Duratec under the hood?

If they weren't quick-rusting and floppy, I'd love to find a Mustang II and put in a more modern motor. They can be made to look good, it's just a matter of the performance holding up.

But at the same time, a Fox Body is way better and just a bit more expensive (or maybe cheaper) to find with a 302.

I had a model of that blue and white racecar as a kid. I thought all mustangs looked that cool for a long time.

The fox is really a modified II platform. Sooo many parts are interchangeable.

That blue one at the top has been one of my favorites for a while.

And the car that gave me the idea that a Mustang II would be a good baseline for an american affordable donor car, to do a japanese-nostalgic, or pro-touring treatment to.

monochrome paint with a blackout tail panel, minimal brightwork trim or blacked-out window trim, purposeful but not slammed stance... but I would go with some classic-style alloy wheels rather than steelies, and maybe some rivet-on fender flares.

A little less nascar/oval track than the blue one seems to exude, but similarly unadorned and clean, and raked/stanced.

And I have a diabolical plan to graft the nose of a 71-73 Mustang with the full-width grille, onto a Mustang II body... basically just the hood and front overhang.

The only thing I am not sure yet about... ducktail spoiler (either one or three piece), or a muscle-car like pedestal wing with angle-down ends.

Sort of like an american-sourced alternative to a 260Z 2+2 resto-mod.

I think it should be added to the "diesel, stick, wagon" mantra. Diesel, Stick, Wagon, T-tops, Blondes. I think that covers it

Absolutely not. You are a good person for daring to think crazy thoughts.

Compare part transfer from Mustang II and Fox, as it is with Fox and SN-95, because those were a "modified II" platform, but pretty much only the suspension, transmission, and engine were transferable, and usually with some custom fabrication, or at least what I heard.

Is the II closer to the Fox than the Fox is to the SN-95?

The II and the Fox were not that similar.

The II has short-long A-arms in the front and leaf springs in the back. The Fox has McPherson Struts in the front and triangulated 4 link with coils in the back. The rear axles were different too, the II used a 8inch, the fox used a 7.5in (completely different designs). Also worth noting, the Fox was larger in nearly every dimension and stiffer, but weighed about 200 pounds less.

The engine and the trans are probably interchangable, but the Fox started out using the II's engine.

The SN-95 is based off the fox which is based off the II which is based off the Pinto.

That doesn't answer my question at all.

I want to know to what extent they were "based off" of. I know they are 'similar' in that respect, I want to know how much. Is the Fox closer to the II or the SN-95 in terms of swappable parts?

Simpson Design has already done that.

Kinja'd!!!

Italia 2 GTB Coupe conversion, with t-top panels. No longer a convertible, as the fastback part of the roof is permanently fixed to the car, not a removable hard-top.

Sn95 is closet to the fox. And you ask too many questions. If you don't stop, they'll catch on. And don't ask who "they" are!
